Course Overview

The aim of this course is to equip learners with the up-to-date knowledge and skills required to navigate the impact of digitisation on business environments.

Focusing on the key business areas of the management of data, the analysis of data, industrial automation and process control and data driven project management, the programme will provide learners with knowledge of the core elements of process digitalisation, which include Data Analytics. The impact of automation and process control for manufacturing systems and processes. Develop data management skills and the importance of these data models in the distribution of data and the emerging “Big Data” paradigm along with ethical considerations surrounding data.

Developed and taught by experienced academics and industry lecturers, this course is delivered through blended learning, 2 evenings per week online and 1-2 Saturdays per month with a mix of online and in-person.

Accreditation: QQI Level 7 Certificate in Automation and Data Analysis for Process Control (Minor Award – 30 ECTS).

Course Outline

This part-time programme runs over 2 semesters. Lectures are delivered online 2 evenings per week plus 1-2 Saturdays per month in a face to face classroom. 

This course will cover the following modules.

Module 1: The Management of Data

Gain an understanding of the principles and techniques behind the management and analysis of Big Data, as well as the best practices for managing and maintaining large data sets.

Module 2: Industrial Automation and Process Control

Understand how to evaluate the potential for and benefits of digitalisation and automation through architecture and hierarchy of automation in manufacturing.

Module 3: Data Driven Project Management

Develop skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the modern workplace by focusing on Data-Driven Project Management by combining theoretical knowledge with practical applications through the use of agile and scrum methodologies.

Module 4: The Analysis of Data

Discover a variety of fundamental ways of analysing data along with a variety of tools and basic statistical techniques to prepare for the exponential growth of big data in industry.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to hold a minimum of a QQI Level 6 Certificate (120 credits) in Science, Engineering, Quality or a related discipline. Recognition of Prior Learning is also considered for applicants who do not meet the minimum entry requirements.
